Retrovizorja eshte nje ‘grup i ri’ nga Prishtina. Ideja e krijimit te ketij grupi erdhi ne vitin 2002 kur ne vendosėm ti perkujtojmė pervojat e mira muzikore qė i kemi pas sė bashku qysh nga viti 1994.

Pėr momentin, Retrovizorja ėshtė njė ekipė mjaft e vogėl dhe pėrbėhet prej Kreshnik Hotit (Zuzakut) dhe Bashkim Salihut. Rishtazi, Elina Duni nga Zvicra, iu bashkangjit ekipit tonė tė vogėl nė albumin e fundit. Kontributi i saj mund tė vėrehet shumė lehtė. Bashkimi momentalisht ėshtė nė Prishtinė, Kreshniku ėshtė pėrkohėsisht nė Australi nė studime ndėrsa ELina studion jazz-in nė Zvicėr. Prandaj, pėr momentin jemi koxha tė shpėrndarė nėpėr botė…

Pse e keni emėrtu albumin tuaj tė fundi “Lakuriq" ?

Ideja prapa emrit tė albumit lakuriq nuk ėshtė pornografike. Me kėtė emėr ne kemi dashur tė shprehim sinqeritetin tonė tė zhveshur lakuriq gjatė krijimit tė kėtij albumi.

Nė kėtė album kėndon njė vajzė nga Tirana, Elina Duni. Pse keni vendorė tė pėr zė femre nė kėtė album dhe a do tė thotė kjo se nė tė ardhmėn ju gjithashtu to tė keni vocalist femėr?

Ne spontanisht kemi kontaktu Elinėn derisa ishim nė inqizimin e pjesės instrumentale tė ‘lakuriqit’. Fatmirėsisht, ajo e pranoi ftesėn tonė dhe u bashkangjit. Ideja ishte qė ta gjejmė njė zė senzitiv qė do t’a reflektonte muzikėn tonė nė njė mėnyrė tė tillė qė pjesėt instrumentale tė kėngeve tė pėrcillen sinergjikisht me njė zė tė ėmbėl. Nė albumin tonė tė parė kemi pas njė zė mashkulli i cili pėrveq tjerash edhe ka kėndu, ai ishte Dritro Nikqi nga grupi Por-no, i cili ishte edhe pjesė e grupit Retrovizorja nė albumin e parė ‘Polaroid’. Megjithatė, nuk jemi tė limituar pėr ka aspekti i zėrave nė pikpamjen femėr apo mashkull pasiqė nė rend tė parė kemi sinergjizmin dhe harmoninė mes zėrit dhe tingujve. Si funksionon bendi kur dihet se Kreshniku ėshtė nė Australi, Bashkimi nė Prishtinė dhe Elina nė Zvicėr?

Shumė vėshtirė. Gjėja e mirė ėshtė se ne punojmė nė muzikėn tonė gjatė gjithė kohės kur jemi larg prej njėri tjetrit. Gjėja e keqe ėshtė se pėr momentin pėr shkak tė kėsaj largėsie nuk jemi nė gjendje tė performojmė ‘live’ pėr ndėgjuesit tonė. Por pėrsėri, e mira e krejt kėsaj ėshtė se nostalgjia e cila na rrethon neve gjatė kohės kur nuk jemi sė bashku, nuk mund tė evitohet pa u reflektu nė muzikėn tonė. Me siguri, kjo largėsi edhe kontribon qė muzika jonė tė jetė ashtu si ėshtė: pėr dikė nostalgjike, pėr dikė melankolike e pėr dikė agresive. Elektronika ėshtė mė pak prezente nė albumin e dytė nė krahasim me tė parin. A do tė thotė kjo se jeni munduar tė ju ktheheni rock-instrumenteve konvencionale (gitarės, timpaneve)?

Dallimi ėshtė se nė ‘Lakuriq’ ne i kemi vendosė tingujt elektronik nė njė model dhe radhitje tjetėr e qė pėr dikė ndoshta duket si radhitje “jo-konvencionale”. Nė albumin e dytė tinguj elektronik nė shumicėn e rasteve luajnė rol mbėshtetės e jo udhėheqės. Bile, nė disa raste ėshtė e vėshtirė edhe tė vėrehen nė kėngė, por mundemi me garantu qė albumi i dytė pėrmbanė mė shumė elektronikė se i pari. Nė fakt, kjo ėshtė mjaft subjektive dhe varet drejtėpėrdrejt nga ajo se si njerėzit e kuptojnė konceptin e elektronikės nė muzikė. Kėsaj here bassi gjatė gjithė albumit ka mė shumė ‘groove’ si dhe llojllojshmėria e gitareve ėshtė mė e madhe prandaj ėshtė e natyrshme se tingujt elektronik e kanė mė vėshtirė tė dalin nė planin e parė. Megjithatė, ne nuk e bėmė kėtė me tendenca ‘konvencionale’ tė rock-instrumenteve. Kjo thjesht ishte njė evolucion i muzikės tonė e cila kėsaj here kishte pėr qėllim qė ta bėnė elektronikėn tė tingllojė sa mė natyrale dhe tė inkorporuar me pjesėn tjetėr instrumentale.

Ēka ka marrė Retrovizorja prej Prishtinės dhe ēka i ka dhėnė asaj?

Ne kemi marrė shumė prej Prishtinės, por ėshtė vėshtirė tė themi se ēka saktėsisht i kemi dhėnė asaj, pėrveq shprehjeve tona tė sinqerta muzikore tė cilat shpesh bashkėdyzohen me jetėn nė Prishtinė.
Ne jėmi rritė nė Prishtinė, kshtuqė disa prej kujtimeve tona mė tė mira dhe mė tė kqija, e qė janė tė lidhura mė qytetin e Prishtinės, ėshtė e pamundur tė mos shprehen nė muzikėn tonė. Prandaj, jo rrallė, ne inspirohemi nga Prishtina. Elina gjithashtu ka kaluar fėmijrėinė e saj nė Tiranė prandaj muzika jonė nė albumin ‘Lakuriq’ ka edhe reflektime Tironse.
Temperaturat prej -15 C gjatė inqizimit tė albumit ishin gjithashtu inspirim pėr neve. Por parasėgjithash, mėnyra e jetės nė Prishtinė, kultura dhe qielli i Prishtinės me re laramane na e forcojnė ndjenjėn e vetėbesimit. Kėtė ndjenjė e ka secili qė shkon nė Prishtinė dhe e don kėtė qytet.

Nė kopertinat e albumit tė parė dhe tė dytė ka foto nga kampet e refugjatėve nė MAqedoni gjatė luftės nė KOsovė. Ēka do tė thotė kjo?

Ato janė vetėm disa prej imazheve tė ngulfatuna ne kokat tona. Thjesht nuk mundesh me i harru. Ėshtė gjithashtu interesante se si i kujton ato imazhe tė vuajtjes njerėzore gjithmonė kur diqka e mire duhet tė ndodhė – siq ėshtė inqizimi i albumit pėr shembull. Ndoshta tė gjithėve duhet tė ju kujtohen ato imazhe para se tė krijojnė diqka tė mirė. Ky ėshtė realitet i joni nė shumė raste – njerėz tė privuar nga shumė gjėra tė bukura tė cilat pėrndryshe i meritojmė. Nė vend tė shijimit tė kėtyre ndjenjave elementare ne ende jemi te mbyllun si nė njė kamp, pa pasur mundėsi ti shijojmė ose ndiejmė. Megjithatė lulet ma tė veqanta dalin edhe prej therrave. Muzika e mirė ka egzistu gjithmonė kėtu…edhepse e izoluar nga pjesa tjetėr e botės dhe ndoshta teknikisht e pafinalizuar sa duhet pėr lancim mė tė gjėrė.

Kur do tė ju shohim ‘live’?

Kjo varet prej krejt neve. Shpresojmė se kjo do tė ndodhe sė shpejti, menjėherė pasiqė tė jemi bashkė n’Prishtinė nė mėnyrė qė tė mund tė paraqitemi komplet para ndėgjuesve tonė.

Who are
Retrovizorja?
Ret
rovizorja is a fairly new band coming from Prishtina. The idea last year was to get together to make a new band and recall good musical experiences we had together since 1994. Retrovizorja means going forwards while looking backwards and remembering our past. Currently Retrovizorja is quite a small team consisting of Kreshnik Zuzaku (Hoti) and Bashkim Salihu. Recently, Elina Duni, from Switzerland, joined our little team and her contribution to our music can be easily noticed. Bashkim is in Prishtina now, Kreshnik is currently studying in Australia while Elina studies jazz in Switzerland. Hence, we're pretty spread out.

 

Why did you call your last album "Lakuriq" (Naked)?

The name "Lakuriq" means "Naked". The idea is not pornographic. With this name we wanted to express our naked sincerity towards the whole process of creating this album. Naked in terms of sincereness.

 

In this album sings a girl from Tirana, Elina Duni. Why did you decide to use a female voice in this album and does this mean that also in the future you are going to have a female vocalist?

We spontaneously contacted Elina while we were recording the instrumental part of the album. Luckily for us, she accepted our invitation. The idea was to find a sensible voice that would reflect our music in a way that the instrumental parts of the songs are truly transmitted synergistically with a soft sensible voice. In our first album we had a male voice but this time we decided to give it a go with a female voice. However, we're not limited in this regard because we constantly look after that synergism between the music and voices. A good example of this is the song "laroshe" in our second album where we actually introduced a male voice only because we all thought it would sound better like that. Elina is part of the team and therefore when her timetable is compatible with ours we'll surely cooperate together again. We're definitely not planing to find another female voice since Elina meets and exceeds our criteria. Even more, she has been perfectly incorporated into our small team. We had an unforgettable time together in the studio working as a team and I think we were lucky to meet her...

 

How does the band function when Kreshnik is living in Australia, Bashkim in Prishtina, and Elina in Switzerland.

Pretty hard actually. The good thing is that we work on our music all the time that we're away from each other. The bad thing is that we're not capable of playing live. But again, the good thing is that all that nostalgia that surrounds us during our 'non-contact months' cant just fade out without being expressed in our music. Being away from each other and from our country probably contributes to our music being like it is.

 

Electronic is less present in the second album than in the first one. Does this mean that you attempt to go back to more "conventional" rock instruments (rock guitars, drums)?

The difference in "Lakuriq" is that we allocated electronic sounds in a different pattern which is pretty non-conventional to some maybe. In our second album electronic sounds in most cases play a supportive rather than leading role and in some instances it's hard to distinguish them, but I can ensure you that there is a lot more electronics in our second album. Actually this is pretty subjective and it depends on how one understands the concept of electronics in the music. This time, the bass throughout the album is groovier and there are a more variety of guitars that of course means it was pretty hard for electronics to come out into the first plan. However, this was not due to our "conventional" intentions. It was just an evolution of our music and this time our objective was to make electronics sound more natural and fully incorporated with the rest of the instruments.

What did "Retrovizorja" take from Prishtina and what did you give to her?

We took a lot from Prishtina but it's hard to say what we actually give, except for a sincere expression of feelings in our music, which often interferes with the life in Prishtina and the city itself.
We grew up in Prishtina so some of the best and worst memories that are inevitable for reflection into our music are related to this city. Elina spent her childhood in Tirana and therefore our music also has reflections from Tirana.

The -15 C temperatures during the recording time were surely an inspiration for us too. But what is most important, Prishtina's lifestyle, culture and her weird coloured cloudy skies strengthened our feeling of self-confidence, which everyone who goes there and loves the city has.

 

In the back of the covers of the first and the second album there are photos of the refuge camps in Macedonia during the war in Kosovo. What does this mean?

Those are some of the images locked up into our heads. One just can't get rid of them. Its interesting how you remember those horrible images of human suffering always when something good is about to happen - like making an album for example. That's the reality of the whole Balkans in lots of instances - people deprived from a lot of things that they would otherwise disserve to have and instead they sit inside this big Sanatorium camp watching good things outside without being able to feel them nor touch them. Good stuff grows out of the thorns too though. Good music was always here... although isolated from the rest of the world and technically not fit enough for a broader launch.

When are we going to see you live?

It depends on all of us three. We're all craving for that so lets just hope that playing live will be a reality very soon, like it used to be.
